I rarely have to fax anything anymore as most places accept PDF over email.  However, I recently had to fax a medical form and since I no longer have a fax machine, I had to look for an internet ready solution.  I thought I would share the service that I went with.  I ended up using faxZERO.  They offer a free service that is limited to 3 pages and includes an advertisement on the coverpage. They also offer a paid service that costs $1.99 (through PayPal) that is limited to 15 pages and has faster delivery.  The free service took me 6 minutes the first fax that I sent and 4 minutes for the second fax I sent.  Very usable.  I have nothing to do with faxZERO and am getting no kickback or anything from them.  I just thought it was a convenient service and would like to put it out there for anyone else to find.

If you could plug earphones into my mind right now and listen to my thoughts, you would hear an endless loop of this song from the Mercenaries 2 commercial. (oh no, you didn’t… )  So addicting. ( …foreva…) Overwhelmingly cool.  (… you owe meEEEEEE…)  They really need to make a full length song out of this, 30 seconds is just enough to get you started and then it’s over.

internet sharing from a mac
internet sharing from a mac

Between last night and tonight I spent about 6 hours trying to get my work laptop, a Dell Latitude d630 running XP Pro SP 2, to connect to wireless internet connection sharing on my personal laptop, a MacBook Pro 17 running 10.5.4, using WEP encryption.  What I learned is that there are 3 important things that are not obvious or apparent when sharing your internet connection from a Mac to a PC over wireless.

1. Do not use spaces in your network name.  If you do, it the connection will show up on the PC, but you will not be able to connect and you won’t be prompted for the WEP key.

2. Make sure you use the recommended number of characters for the key, 5 for 40 bit, 13 for 128 bit.

3. On the PC use the following settings:

  • Network Authentication: Shared
  • Data encryption: WEP
  • Network key (and Confirm network key): The same 5 or 13 char string you set on the Mac.
  • Key index: 1
  • The key is provided for me automatically: Unchecked.

August 14th was I was my parents’ 31st wedding anniversry. It was also the day I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). MS is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s immune system attacks the protective coating of the nerve cells in the central nervous system. Although I am not happy about having MS, I am very happy to finally have a diagnosis. After a year of symptoms I can finally start treatment. MS can be controlled relatively well with medication, and so the sooner the better.

Stop right there
That’s exactly where I lost it
See that line
Well I never should’ve crossed it
Stop right there
Well I never shoulda’ said that
It’s the very moment that I wish that I could take back
I’m sorry for the person I became
I’m sorry that it took so long for me to change
I’m ready to be sure I never become that way again
‘Cuz who I am hates who I’ve been

-Relient K “who I am hates who I’ve been”

I just want to take a moment to apologize to everyone that I have ever known for everything that I have done out of anger, hatred or jealousy.

I’m sincerely sorry.

Wednesday I picked up my new iPhone 3G. I love it! I am currently writing this post using the Wordpress iPhone app. It’s pretty sweet. This means that I can now blog when I’m sitting bored. Expect more posts, more often. Also, there is now an Apple store in Charleston, good stuff.

Apple Logo Chrome

Okay, so I want to purchase a second Apple Keyboard for my MacBook Pro 17. One for work and one for home. There seems to be NO place that I can find in South Carolina where I can walk in and buy Apple products. I am within 15 minutes driving distance of a Best Buy, Circuit City and numerous (at least 10) small computer shops, yet none of them carry Apple products in stock (well besides the iPod product line). The nearest CompUSA and Apple stores are in North Carolina and Georgia. It just seems insane to me that there are no places to buy Apple computer products in the Greater Charleston area; or in all of South Carolina for that matter. If anyone reading this knows of a place that I have missed, please leave me a comment or an email.

Jayden building an herb garden. The first Saturday of every month is “Home Depot Day” for Jayden and I. Joy works 9am - 5pm on Saturdays so it ends up being a guy’s day out anyway, but on “Home Depot Day” we go to our local home depot where they have projects for kids to build. This past Saturday he built an herb garden to give to his mom for Mother’s Day. Some of his past projects have been a bird feeder, a race car, a baseball bat rack, a treasure box as well as many others. It’s just a nice special time for us to share.
